Can't open saved 2007 file

I saved a doc typed in 2007 word but saved in 2003 word. This A.M. when I try
to open it to resume work on it, I can't open it due to" invalid file
directory" I didn't get a warning when I closed it that night.

I also cannot open any other docs on my list of recent docs. This a new
laptop with vista and new word program, maybe 1 month, I haven't used word
very much, I'm fairly new and I did search for my problem first, before I
posted.

I save things in 2003 word because I have problems submitting docs to other
programs, they don't like 2007 format it seems, or I don't do it right.

Hi Sparky,

Is it just on the Recently used list that you're seeing this or also if you use Office Files button=>Open and navigate to the
document in the location shown in the recently used list when you hover over it with the mouse to see the path?

Do you use a 'network drive' letter to represent a folder that may have been disconnected?

Thank you Bob,

You jogged my memory that I was using my external hard drive when I saved
the article. I went back plugged in my drive, and found it.

All the other docs that I've worked on are listed on recent docs even though
I can't open them from there. They are all in my external hard drive. What
should may been my first clue that they were some where else. That would
probably be the ../ I saw in front of the file name, right?

Thanks for your answer Bob. Now I can finish my work.
