Can't Open Some Documents Using Finder

M

Michael

I've noticed that sometimes, when I double-click on a Word document in
Finder, Word won't open it. It animates as if it is opening, then nothing
happens. I can open the same file from within Word. Has anyone else had
this problem?

Thanks!

Hi Michael:

Yes, it's a common problem.

Apple OS reads the file's Creator Code from within the file to determine
which application to hand the file to, and with what command (Open, Edit,
Copy, etc...)

Each time you come across one like that, use GetInfo in Finder to associate
that particular document creator code with Word, as described in the Mac
Help.

Eventually, you will have covered all of the creator codes you need, and you
will be able to double-click everything from the Finder.

Cheers

Hey Michael,

Are you using Word X?

In Word X sometimes if you double click a file, it will bring Word X to the
front but not open the file. When this behavior happens you must quit Word
and then lauch again.

This issue was fixed for Word 2004.

Thanks
