Can't open the specified file

I am trying to insert a hyperlink into a PowerPoint Presentation 2002 which
should open Windows Media Player and play a DivX file. I get the message:

"Can't open the specified file"

I have the proper codec installed in the player and it plays the file
properly by itself but when I try this combination, get the message. Any
suggestions?

Double check all your paths
e.g.
c:\thisbit\andthatbit\etc

and double check the filename

and the extension

How are you inserting? If you go to Insert > Object > Windows Media Player and
check "Create new", scroll to the bottom of the list and select Windwos Media
Player and then click OK, the Media Player will be inserted on your slide. Then
right click it and select Properties. In the list that is displayed, find URL
and paste/type the full path to your video file. Does that do what you want?
