Can't open videos. Get "Quicktime Player must be installed..."message

Greetings.
I haven't been able to open video attachments since installing
Leopard, along with Quicktime 10.0. I also still have Quicktime player
7, which has moved to my Utilities folder. When selecting the
attachment within the e-mail, I get the message "Quicktime Player must
be installed..."

What's going on and how do I correct the problem?

Thanks.

Select one of the files that you want to open. Do a Get Info. Select the
application you want to use to open the file. You can do a change all or
just for the individual file.

Hmmmm. This solution doesn't work from Entourage directly. I have to
download the file to the computer (desktop) and perform these steps,
however THAT doesn't fix it. The file associations were fine. i can
open files if I download them. The problem is they don't open
correctly in Entourage - the with "Quicktime installer" message
popping up. This was only an issue after snow leopard installation. It
doesn't happen for any other file types but (.wmv)

So how do you change file associations in Entourage?

Client doensn't want to download all her file, just open them from
entourage as she had always done.

So how do you change file associations in Entourage?

Entourage doesn't know about file associations. It relies on the Finder.
However, Entourage may be the hidden file type attribute that comes with
the file instead of the file extension.

Try this:

Save the attachment to the Desktop and note its file extension. If it
comes with .wmv then repeat the File --> Get Info step to reset the file
association with the application you want to open the file.

Close the Get Info window and then *remove* the file extension. Repeat
the File --> Get Info step and verify that the extension really is
deleted from the file name (not just hidden). Reset the file association
with the application you want to open the file.

This should set the Finder's file associations for both the file
extension as well as the hidden file type.

Hope this helps!

I had the same problem using leopard. I did what the person who
responded to you suggested and it worked. It seemed a little
confusing so I will explain it in detail. It should work.

save the .wmv file that you recieve in Entourage somewhere. Locate it
using finder. Highlight the file. At the top select File, then Get
info, under open with select quick time player and select change
all. When you go back to Entourage you will not be able to open
all .wmv files right from Entourage.

Good Luck
Rick
