Can't open webs in FP 2000

I'm using FP 2000 on a Win98SE desktop computer.

When I try to open a web page for update, I am unable to
do so and get one of 2 error messages: (1) "<webpage
name> is no longer available." or (2) "Accessing HTTP
servers requires 32-bit networking which is not installed
or may be misconfigured."

I know the page is available since I can open it on a
laptop computer which accesses the Internet through the
same router and DSL connection as this machine does.
Also, my "network properties" indicate that TCP/IP is
installed for the network adapter in the desktop.

Microsoft's Knowledge Base article 265032 blames a
similar problem (with publishing from FP 2000) on
ZoneAlarm firewall software. I had installed the free
version of ZoneAlarm prior to the onset of this FP
problem. But the problem continues even after I
uninstalled ZoneAlarm as the KB article recommended.
(Zone Labs provides only "knowledge base" type help for
the free ZA product, and I could not find any help there.)

What should I do to restore the ability to open web pages
in FP 2000.

you should just be able to go into Zone Alarm (if that's what the cause is)
and Allow access to the url.- if it's disabled just change it to Allow.

Go here: http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm
Download and run RegSeeker. Click "Clean the Registry" and click ok.

It's going to find a lot and I mean a lot of junk entries, which "should" include the ZA
leftovers.
When It's done, make sure the backup box is checked, then Click "Select all" then right
click in the main panel and click "delete selected items"

Reboot the computer and try.

I found 2 instances of "ZAMailSafe" and a reference
to "Zone Labs" in the registry under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
They pointed to a file "..\Program Files\Zone Labs\Zone
Alarm\ZLCLIENT.EXE". But I could not find ZLCLIENT.EXE on
my drive.

However, "ZLCLIENT.LGC" does appear in
the ..\windows\applog folder, but it says it requires
ZLCLIENT.EXE to open. I looked at the .lgc file with
WordPad. It has many screens full of entries (strings of
letters and numbers), some followed by a .dll file name.
But I couldn't tell what any of these entries mean.

Did you make sure that all references to Zone Alarm were removed from the
registry?
