Can't Open WORD 2007

When I try to open WORD 2007 it minimizes to the task bar and I can't open
it, but it will open with when I type "winword.exe /a" in the Run window.
Any suggestions?

Open two documents, then right-click in the Taskbar and choose stacked or
cascade. That should bring the documents back onto the screen. Close one of
the documents and then move the open document into its correct position and
resize it; then maximise it.

I tried it - didn't work, they both stayed minimized in the task bar. Any
other suggestions?

Open two documents and then right-click on one of them in the Taskbar: can
you select MOVE? If you can, select it and use the arrow keys to bring the
document back into view.

I can't select MOVE. The only options are RESTORE, MINIMIZE (how ironic)
and CLOSE. It will close but not restore, and minimize makes the box go from
embossed to engraved but doesn't really do the function.

So, Maximize is not listed as an option?

I would try deleting the Data key in the registry (that's where window
positions are stored), and see if that shakes things loose. For Word 2007,
the data key is here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word

Word will create a new one automatically.

Do you have a dual monitor setup? If so, it's not uncommon for the document
to be open on the second monitor (which is not turned on).

Herb-
Thank you for the suggestion - it worked beautifully! Tell me though, how do
the registry values get currupted in the first place?

Most often, elves sneak in during the night...

Actually, my impression is that the most frequent cause is Word crashes. If
Word crashes for some reason, it's unable to correctly to housekeeping in
the registry, resulting in corrupted entries.

I see you have the problem resolved but for future reference, if you see a
Restore command then that means the window is maximized, not minimized. As
Suzanne noted, the most likely cause is the document is displaying on
another monitor that's either not turned on or Windows thinks you have dual
monitors but you don't.

In any event, if you click Restore you should then be able to use the Move
command to bring it back into view.

In this situation, while deleting the Data key in the Registry resolved the
issue this time, it's likely it will come back. You may want to take a
closer look at your Display settings and make sure a second one isn't being
recognized if you aren't working with dual monitors.
