Can't open Word 97 doc in Word XP

Pete

I have a 199 page Word 97 document. It contains graphics and tables and looks
like it was originally built from a template. The problem I have encountered
is that we are on Wrod XP now and I can't get this document to open in Word
XP. I keep getting the following error. The document "[Doc name]" caused a
serious error last time it was opened. Would you like to continue opening.
If you say yes it comes up with Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and
needs to close.
Error Signature is
ApName: Winword.exe
ModVer 10.0.6714.0
ModName mso.dll
AppVer:10.0.6612.0
Offset: 0000300e

I can open this document fine in Word 97 but I don't want to have to install
Word 97 on everyones machines to open this doc.
I need some help on converting this to Word XP.

Thanks
Pete

Have you tried the Open and Repair option?

If you open it in 97 then save it as RTF can you open it then in XP?
Maybe you lose too much info?

Just a thought... have you tried creating a new blank document and then doing
insert file and inserting your troublesome document into a new clean
document?

Sometimes this enables you to retrieve the document contents so you can
clean up the document properly.
