Can't open Word docs

P

Pat F.

My Mom uses an iMac and has Office 98 installed. She suddenly was not
able to open any Word documents. She can open and use the other
Office applications like Excel. She gets the message, "The Visual
Basic Editor could not be loaded. There may not be enough free memory
to load the libraries or files may have been deleted or moved from
their originally installed locations".

She reinstalled Office 98 but no change. A friend said it looked like
she had enough memory. I am several states away. Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Pat

Hi Pat,

Your Mom has most likely picked up an old PC Word macro virus. You can try
uninstalling and reinstalling Office 98 but if the error message persists,
your Mom will need to purchase and install anti virus software (if she
doesn't already have it) and do a hard disk scan to detect and remove it.

If she decides to try the remove/reinstall first, she should follow the
procedure in the following article (and she must download the Remove Office
tool as explained in the article):
