From all previous reports of Acrobat 7, it inhibits Word saving the
normal.dot by design. There's a rough workaround: edit the Windows registry.
You need to find the key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins\PDFMaker.OfficeAdd
in]
and change the subkey called "LoadBehavior" from a value of 3 to 0

: OK, I found the problem. Following your latest suggestion, I un-installed
: Adobe Acrobat 7.0 upgrade that I had put in about a week ago.
:
: WORD and EXCEL then came up in fine shape!!
:
: The strange thing is that I then re-installed Acrobat and still everything
: works
: OK. Guess the original install mungled some file (in Office start-up?),
and
: it
: was OK the second time around.
:
: Anyway, Terry, thanks much for your help.
:
: Best regards,
