Can't open Word XP files

I just switched to a Mac, thinking I could easily transfer the files I
made in Office in Windows XP and use them with Office X.

Unfortunately, my girlfriend just e-mailed me a bunch of my documents
from that old computer, and when I open them it's complete
gobbdlygook. Nothing but letters and numbers and slashes.

Please help! I finally decided to switch to mac, and now i can't use
those files....

Hi Vikram,

It sounds like the email program that she used messed up the files. Have
her zip them first.
