Can't open

I'm using Mac OS 10.3.7 with Excel X for Mac. It won't open an Excel
document directly. I get an error message 10660. If I open Excel first and
then choose Open from the file menu, it works fine. What am I doing wrong?

Difficult to say whitout any further information about the file and the
situation. Maybe you could have a look at this KB article and see if it gives
you enough indications to help you out:

If it doesn't maybe you can say a bit more: Does it happen with one specific
Workbook onlyu or with any Workbook on your machine? Have you been able to
opent the workbook(s) before?

Hi efb2-

Are the offending files ones you have created on the same system with
the same OS? If so, you may need to Repair Disk Permissions using Disk
Utility and that may fix the problem.

Another thought if that doesn't fix it or if the answer to above
question is "no", is to select the icon for one of the offenders and
type Cmd+i. In the Get Info window set it to open with Excel for all
files of that type and see if that helps.
