Can't paste copied text, only get usless icon

When I copy text from a web page, I cannot past it into Outlook/word email.
Instead of the copied text, I get only a small square icon with a grey
envelope shape and a green up arrow on a blue background. Please help.

I am using Office 2003 with Outlook and Word as my email editor.

What email format are you using? Plain text, rich text, or HTML?

I almost always use HTML, espceially with this info copied from web pages.
