All of a sudden I've lost the ability to print word-documents. I press
Cmd-P, see a print command flash by really quickly and then nothing happens.
The Print-app is not activated. I've tried printing from other app's (eg
E'rage) with no problems so it seems it a Word-problem. It also seems it has
someting to do with the fact that I have a footer on the document. When I
remove that it prints nicely. So I guess it's probably some setting.

Can somebody help me?

I'm using OS X 10.3.5 (the latest update), Office X and a HP Deskjet 990 C.

TIA for any assistance

The footer stumped me, too....what's in the footer? Is it a field, a frame,
a graphic? Do *any* documents with footers print, or is it something about
this one particular footer? What about if you delete the footer entirely,
then recreate it from scratch?

If I delete the text in the footer - and text is all there is in it, i.e. my
name, address,, mail and phone# - it prints nicely. When I reenter the text
in the footer, it won't.

I've also tried printing other documents with headers (some templates I
have) and that doesn't work either.

Maybe something to do with margins or something??

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

It could be margins....are yours set to anything unusual? Are the
headers/footers really close to the edge?

A few things to try:

See if Printing to PDF works--if it does, it suggests it might be a
corrupted printer driver? In which case try reinstalling the printer
driver.

I'd also try testing to see if your Normal template got corrupted somehow,
since this happens with all documents.

(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)
Start with, under General Troubleshooting, the links re Normal Template,
Global templates, and Damaged Preferences.

I don't know enough to suggest a preferred order to check these in, though
if this problem appeared soon after updating to 10.3.5, maybe I'd start with
the driver route, maybe even see if HP has released a more recent OS X for
your printer.

Hi Carsten,

If it's a margin problem, you should at least get a dialog box to that
effect. However ... you can test this. Go to Format> Document and change
the Header and Footer to be 1" From Edge; and change the document margins to
1 1/2". If it still won't print headers and footers, then it definitely
isn't a margin problem and we'll have to look elsewhere.

By the way, at the time when this happened, had you installed any new
software or done anything else that might have relevance? Have you tried
repairing disk permissions (probably won't help, but can't hurt)?
