Can't print symbols

We have 2 users, both on Word 2000; when one user prints a document to the
departmental printer, some symbols appear as blocks - when a second user
prints the same document to the same printer, the symbols appear as they
should. Any answers???

Possibly on the second computer the Symbol font file
(C:\Windows\Fonts\Symbol.ttf) is either damaged or missing. Try copying that
file from the "good" computer to the "bad" computer.

Of course, that assumes the "symbols" you mentioned are actually formatted
with Symbol font; if some other font is involved, look for that font's file
in the Fonts folder instead.

It is also possible that the printer drivers are set up differently on each
computer. Maybe one is set to send whole pages as graphics whilst the other
is set to send TrueType fonts. Or one may be set to send and use the
printer's resident fonts and the particular symbol set is missing. There's a
whole load of possibility but I suggest that you start by comparing the
printer driver setting.
