I put a question on this board on 7 July but as the issue has not been
resolved I am trying again.
I made a website for a friend some time ago. It is hosted by Lycos. I made
the site in FP2002 but upgraded to FP2003 a few months back. Recently I made
some alternations to the site. Unfortunately, now I can't publish the
changes.
I've been in touch with Lycos. This is what they said:
"We are aware of issues with some aspects of FrontPage.
These are due to the none availability of server extensions for Linux.
Microsoft has stop producing and supporting these after Frontpage 2002.These
extensions we HAVE installed on on our servers.
FrontPage2000 or 2002 will ask you a site location where to publish the
site. Fill this field with your site URL using classical format:
http://frontpage.webcentre.lycos.co.uk/www.yourdomain.com/
Please ensure that any .htaccess files (viewable and removable using webFTP
tool) are removed from both the www and vti_cnf folders before attempting to
upload.
We therefore can no longer confirm or assist with any frontpage extension
issues with later versions due to the above reasons being out of our
control.
Frontpage 2003 will allow you to upload as an FTP client but previous
versions will not. Should the link not function for previous versions you
will require a dedicated FTP client to upload your site.
A free version of which is FILEZILLA, which you can find and download from
any search engine.
For Frontpage 200 or 2002 users you may require to reset your Frontpage
extensions. This is done under Menu option FTP&ACCESS - FRONTPAGE. First
disable the extensions wait 10 minutes and then reenable them. The reset
should then be fully active in around 2-3 hrs and you can then upload via
these versions once again.
With best regards"
Now, I tried their suggestions but it didn't improve matters. I did manage
to publish the site with some ftp software but it doesn't not look 100%
correct to me.
I have also disabled and re-enabled the fp extensions via my control panel
at Lycos. I have used the FP cleaner to do the necessaries too. However, I
still can't publish the site in anyway via FrontPage. This is making me
think either FrontPage or Lycos is useless and I am wondering what to do
next. Please advise, if possible.
