Can't purge mail in IMAP account & updated headers error OL 2007

I work at a university and have an IMAP account set up in Outlook. I can
choose items in my Inbox, delete them, and a line is put through them. This
is perfectly normal. The problem I have is that when I go to purge the
items, they still sit in the Inbox. It's also worth mentioning that when I
first open Outlook, I get an error message stating that it failed to update
headers.

I decided to then move (NOT copy) all the emails from the Inbox on the mail
server to the Trash folder on the mail server. Yes, I realize this is weird.
The result of that was that ALL of the email that was in the Inbox had lines
through it which makes perfect sense. However, I still could not purge any
of it. I sent myself a test email from another account and was able to
delete and purge it. I don't know if it was because it was the newest
message or not.

I then moved all of the mail from the Trash folder back to the Inbox. Now,
it seems that deleting and purging works fine in the Inbox. However, all of
the mail in the Trash folder is showing as being deleted (all have lines
through them), but I can't purge them. I have the same problem, but in a
different folder. If I check the campus Webmail, the Trash folder shows as
being completely empty. I'm still getting the failed to update headers
message, too. I'd greatly appreciate ANY help that can be provided regarding
this matter.

I have the same issue, ever figure it out?

If what you describe happened to me, I'd remove the IMAP account from my
profile, make sure the PST was gone, then add the account back in to see if
that helped. If it didn't, I'd start with a completely new mail profile.
