I recently had to wipe and reinstall Vista. The OEM version is Home
Premium, it's been upgraded to Ultimate, and EFS is in use on my user
directory. I use Kaspersky Internet Security as my firewall, but even
with it set to not protect, I still have the problem, so I doubt that's
the problem. Before the reinstall of the system, I had Office Standard
'07 Upgrade installed as an upgrade to Office SB '00.
Preinstalled on the computer is Works 9 and Office H&S Trial. Works
has been uninstalled, and Office H&S won't uninstall for no real reason
given, just that it failed to uninstall.
Trying to install Office Standard '07 I get a useless error that the
install failed to complete do to "an error occurred". No error codes,
no diagnostic info.
I had tried to install it straight up as a new install, and it took my
reg code, allowed me to select options, and then when it went to
actually install, failed. Thinking that maybe because it's an
"Upgrade" distribution, I never entered a reg code for the preinstalled
version and I had removed Works, I installed Word from my '00 disk,
which worked, and then tried to upgrade. I entered my reg code, It saw
the older version of Word, asked to keep or remove it, I told it to
remove it. I selected the features I wanted and set it lose. It
failed.
Now what?
I had a similar issue trying to install ACDSee 8, but that at least
gave a useful set of errors that I was able to follow to a specific
file that somehow got encrypted after extraction from the install
archive (despite nether the archive nor the extracted file being in an
encrypted directory), and manually removing the encryption before
clicking the "Install" button resolved that. If this is a similar
issue, where do I look?
I need both EFS on my user directory and parts of Office Standard for
work.
