Can't re-save existing document

K

Kim

Using MS Office 2007. I open and work on an existing document. I save (via
icon) and sometimes get something along the lines of "save error, write
protected or disk is full -- want to try again". I say yes and most of the
time it saves it OK after a save window comes up and the same file name is
used.

Sometimes, though, it'll tell me it's 'read-only'. It never is, as verified
via the Properties window. I'll save it under a new name, erase the old,
rename my new one and continue on. There doesn't APPEAR to be rhyme or
reason. It's happend with both 97-2003 compatibilty files and docx files.

Anyone else have this problem? (I've "repaired" the Office a couple of
times thinking something got corrupted -- no help)

Thanks for any help you can toss my way!

This is usually due to an incompatible third party add-in. Test by running
in Safe Mode. From Start, Run (Winkey+R), type in

winword /a

and press enter. Open a document and test for editing and saving now. If it
is OK now, then you have installed something that has placed an incompatible
add-in in Word/Office, or it is a legacy of a previous installation.

See how to find add-ins

I don't have any 'non-microsoft addins' in my word. I used the Office
Button>Word Optons>Addins (I can't find the infamous "tools" menu everyone
keeps talking about in Office 2007). I'll give it a try in Safe Mode but as
of now the two links below didn't provide a lot of comfort.

When I get the failure again I'll get the specific error and see if that
helps the discussion.

Thanks,

Kim

There is no Tools menu in Word 2007: most of those commands are now under
Word Options.

Microsoft add-ins may also be guilty. Are you using BCM with W2007?

Yes. BCM was loaded.

Uninstall BCM and test again. BCM is know to cause problems in Word 2007.

Ok, I'll uninstall it and see what happens. It didn't fail on a regular
basis, seemingly just when I was running short on time..........

Thanks for your help.

But isn't that normal for all computer bugs or faults: they only pop up when
you are in a hurry!
