Hi everyone,

I'm getting an Outlook XP strange problem on some Win2K stations.

Last friday, I used GPO in order to deploy SP4 on about 50 W2k stations.
3 of them didn't get the pack correctly and were stuck in reboot and reboot
and so on....Just after the first progress bar (when you can hit F8 to get
advanced start options)

So, I re-install Win2k on itself on the 3 stations in order to get Win2K
booting
(Booting from CD and choosing R at the second step, when the installer looks
for previous Windows and found the orginal Win2K)
After re-install was complete, I manually install SP4

But since that step, Outlook can't connect to exchange server.
I'm getting an "Outlook can't connect" like error.
(sorry in french it's "Outlook n'a pas pu se connecter")
Or "unreachable server" like ("Votre serveur n'est pas disponible") when
trying to reconfigure the mailbox from outlook or from control panel->mail
nb : I didn't check Outlook after W2k reinstall and before running SP4

I reinstall Office XP, but always the same.

The station is OK, I can ping the exchange server by it's name or IP.
I can even browse server's shareds resources, or get in the user's mailbox
by OWA (http://server/exchange)

I also was unable to log from these stations in an other mailbox with an
other profile on these station. Even if i use a new user profile on the
machine.

There is no clue in the events logs.

Any idea ?

Thanx.

I had the same error. But I was using Win2k and Office
2k. I think my issue may be related to your issue.

"How to troubleshoot connectivity issues that are caused
by RPC client protocol registry entries"

------
What I imagine happened to me was that a recent hotfix
failed. I uninstalled it, it did not fully restore my
registry settings. Parts of my RPC settings were missing.
After I restored it, based on the Q article, and after
rebooting, I was able to get Outlook to find and connect
to our Exchange server.

Hope this helps,
DW

Thanx a lot.
Adding the missings reg entries from
HKLM/software/microsoft/rpc/clientprotocols with an export from an other
computer solved the problem in a minute.
