Installation of office xp sp3 went without a hitch - I have original cds and everything, bu
now I can't use Word, Excel nor PowerPoint. When I try to open a file, it says "file is unavailable
or "can't read the file". I tried creating a new file and saving it, but it too cannot be opened next time
Another annoying problem is whenever I close Word, it tries to save Normal template file, an
asks me whether I want to overwrite the existing Normal template file. What's going on
I have 2 separate partitions on my HD, and have WinXP pro on this partition with Office xp,
but Win2k and office 2k on the other partition. Programs on the other partition seems to work
fine. Help!

fine. Help!Hello,

You should look under options, save, "prompt to save Normal template" and
uncheck this box.

The other problem occurs most likely because of Antivirus
applications, such as Norton. To solve the issue, please do the following
steps:

Method 1: Rename the OfficeAV.dll file

=============================

If Norton Antivirus 2000 or Norton Antivirus 2002 is installed on your
computer,
please try to search for the Officeav.dll file and rename it with
Officeav.old.
Based on some reports, this problem may be due to the document scanning
feature of
Norton Antivirus. Renaming the Officeav.dll file is to disable this feature.

Method 2: Clean up the Office Startup folder.
=================================
According to my research, this behavior may occur when a file is stored in
one of
the Office Startup folders. To resolve the problem, please delete any files
that
are located in the following Office Startup folders:

-- C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\Startup
-- C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Startup

-- C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\Xlstart
-- C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Xlstart

-- C:\Documents and Settings\<User_Name>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP,
where User_Name is your Windows account name

-- C:\Documents and Settings\<User_Name>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

-- The folder specified in the "At startup, open all files in" box (on the
General
tab of the Options dialog box) in Excel program

What is the result now? I hope the above information helps
