can't recover after crash

Motherboard blew up. Man at shop reloaded my program files & fixed the
computer and gave it back to me. But I cannot open any Word files. The Word
documents are there, but when I go to open them, a page appears asking me
for the 25-character registration number (and asks for my name, etc, like it
is all brand new). The only numbers I can find only contain only 20
characters. That's because they're old versions I guess?

I have Windows XP Home as my operating sys. And the Word is Word 2000 -
that's apparently what won't open. I have Microsoft Works Suite 2000 discs,
and I loaded them again myself (again?) - after I found I couldn't open my
old files (or create any new Word files). I went to look at my old computer,
where I copied some programs from ages ago, but still found only a 20-digit
number for the Word program on there.

HELP!!!!!!!!!! I need to write some reports and have no software I can use.
Loaded Office and still get same thing - the validation page asking for the
25 digit number.

Works Suite 2000 includes Word. The CD key for Works Suite should be the one
for Word.

IT doesn't. I have the plastic CD box right in front of me (two of them
actually). On the front is pasted a large label that says "Certificate of
Authenticity". At the bottom is a bar code. Above it is a "Product ID:" with
a long number. It is 20 characters long. I put it in, and I get an error msg
saying it is not appropriate. There is no orange sticker on the back with a
number. On the back is a red sticker with a long paragraph about the
licensing agreement, but no number. I found the XP Product Key (number) a
few minutes ago, and it is 25 characters. I put it in, but got the same
error message. Please help me.

If you have installed a version of Office, then the CD key will be the one
for Office. If you have installed Word from Works Suite, then that CD key
will be the one.
