Can't reinstall Office Professional 2003 on my Vista computer

I had Office Professional 2003 previously installed on my computer which was
running XP. I upgraded to Vista back in June and did not have a problem with
anything until this week. I kept getting errors when composing email and
when attempting to open Word. I tried to repair but the program kept
erroring. So, I did an uninstall and then tried to reinstall. I keep
getting an error that the installation package is not valid. I have a
legitimate copy of the software but if the iinstallation software on the CD
is not compatible with Vista what am I supposed to do in order to reinstall
it? I'm desperate to get my programs back on the computer as my work
depends on it!!!!! Please help!

This doesn't apply because the program was uninstalled on my computer. I
can't reinstall it because the installer program on the CD (which I can't
alter) is apparently not compatible with Vista.

I ran the installer cleanup utility. There were no listings for Microsoft
Office shown. The error message that pops up after the autorun loads it
starts the PROI11N.MSI and then gives this error:
"This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application
vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package."

OK, I'm truly sorry to have to admit that the problem was apparently a smudge
on the CD. I cleaned the CD and it installed without a problem. So I have
to put a sad face for that and a happy face for finally fixing the problem!
Thanks for the helpful ear and suggestions.

Hey, I too, am having the same issue. I can get the software to
install but I cannot use to software to save what I am doing. It
takes several minutes for Word to open, but you cannot save your
work....if you do, it will not open the file, and gives an error
message.

Let me know if you get this fixed with yours and how you did it.

Thanks.
