Can't Retrieve E-mail

Entourage is set up with two e-mail accounts - mine and my wife's. Everything was working fine since in installed MS Office for MAC on Tuesday and starting using Entourage, until today. Now I can receive e-mail under my account but not my wife's. There is an error message that says 'http error: the server is temporarily unable to fulfill the request" and goes on to say, "Could not retrieve e-mail account name Francy Williams" and then an error code "18494". This has been going on all day.

Does any one know what is occurring? It could be that I sinstalled the MS Office Update last night - but I don't know what to do about it.

Usually the problem with downloading accounts after an upgrade has to do
with passwords needing to be reset.

Let's try to find the source of your problem.

1. create a new Identity in Entourage
2. enter your wife's account and see if it works. During the setup account
it will verify the account info. Does it verify?
3. If you get the account working, be sure to copy over the correct entry
into your regular Identity.

You can also test by un-checking your account in the Accounts window so it
does not run in the Send & Receive All schedule. Does her account work if
yours is disabled?

Under About Entourage what version does it show?

I have the same problem except I am still using Entourage X for Mac. I
may have inadvertently down loaded a newer "update"? my screen says Compacting
failed A read/write error has occurred (-40). If we cancel my wife's inaccessible
account, can we then recreate an email account with that same email address?
ie. avoid trying to tell everyone a new address? Mark Morris

Your description isn't very clear.

First. thanks for telling us it is Entourage vX - that helps.

Now, you talk about 'your screen' and 'your wife's inaccessible account'
- are these he same computer & installation? of are you having problems
on two computers?

Next, he failed compact error - this indicates that the disk sectors on
which the database is stored have become damaged. Try running Disk First
Aid (Disk Utility is in the /Applications/Utilities folder). That _may_
correct the disk directory, but probably won't. If it does not, you will
have to discard that database and start a new one (I hope you have
backups!)

I am assuming that he inaccessible account is this one with the rebuild
problems? If so, simply enter the same email account settings into a new
identity you can continue using the same email address - the address is
controlled by your ISP, not by the client that receives the email. If
you remove the current Identity folder from "~/Documents/Microsoft User
Data/Office x Identities" you will be prompted to create a new account
when you start Entourage again.
