Hey all:
I've been unable to retrieve or send email from my MSN DSL account, on
OE 5.x, for Mac for the past week (starting Dec. 20). When I try,
the circular arrows spin and spin, and I eventually (five minutes or
so) get this error message:
"An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down,
overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic. Error: -3259"
I googled this and found that I might need to compact my mailboxes and
folders. I did this, and just about lost all my saved posts and
addresses! I got them back through manually replacing lost files in OE
identities. However, it didn't change my ability to retrieve or send
mail.
The rest of my internet connection is fine, and before I did the
compacting thing, I was able to get newsgroups - (I simply forgot what
my free newsserver was - but I can recreate this.) And, of course,
I'm able to send things like this over the internet via websites.
Also, my daughter has a hotmail account she accesses through OE, and
she's able to send and receive on that.
So what's up? Any ideas where I should start in fixing this? Should
I call up my provider and start yelling, or is it a larger pan-MSN
thing?
