Word is trying to open a file called PDFmaker.dot. Are you opening Word
using a shortcut that has word pointing to PDFmaker.dot as the document
to open? Did you set PDFmaker.dot as your default template? If so, I
suggest openning word using another word document, select open and
navigate to Word's original normal.dot template, and set this as the
default template once more.

Ari

Alternatively, you could always uninstall and reinstall Word, but this
may still pick up on some old settings, I don't know for sure.

Thanks for the reply, every file that I try to open, comes back with "file
not available." I mean every file. hundreds of them. I checked my computer
for viruses, all was clear. This sounds really bad, I'm
worried.........Peter

This is definitely related to Acrobat. Try uninstalling and
reinstalling Acrobat 6. (Did you have another version of Acrobat
installed already? If so, did you uninstall it before installing
Acrobat 6?)

If that doesn't help, do a search for PDFmaker.dot. If it's in any of
the folders Word may treat as a 'startup' folder[*], move it to a
different folder, or rename it with a different extension.

[*] Usual suspects:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Startup
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP

See http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm,
particularly 2a (template corruption).
