Can't save a page to the server

R

Ripper

I posted this below, but no one bit, so I'm trying again.

I'm having a problem editing a shopping cart page that I have edited
several times before successfully. When I try to save the page on the
server, I get this error message:

PAGE NOT ALLOWED
Security Violation! You are not allowed to access this
folder. Your IP address has been logged. Go Back to (none) Date:
Wednesday, 22-Sep-2004 23:43:58 EDT Your IP Address has been stored.
Requested URL: /_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.exe is password protected. Your
user info: MSFrontPage/6.0 Website Services

The above text is from an error page that I created that comes up when
someone tries
to access a protected folder without the proper password. I am the
administrator of the website and I'm logged in to the website when this
occurs. I don't understand why the author.exe file is stopping me from
editing this one page (actually, it's just this folder, but not every page.
There is one other page that will not allow me to save and it's not a
JavaScript laden page, it's a simple HTML page).
I can edit and save every other page on the site. If
I copy and paste the cart code onto another page, I get the same error when
trying to save the new page so it must be related to the code on the page
somehow (I don't know why it would suddenly start doing this though). There
is a TON of JavaScript code on that page (it is the central page of the
entire shopping cart system) and nothing has been changed since the last
time I saved it. The page works fine, but I'm trying to update some basic
info on it and the server won't let me.
Here is the page, in case someone feels like playing detective.

Have you been able to edit page since upgrading to Windows 2003 Server?

I don't have Windows 2003 server. I'm running Windows 2000 Pro.
The site is hosted on an Apache server, not by me.
I can edit the page all I want. I just can't save it when I'm done.
I can save the page locally, but that doesn't help me.
I'm thinking I might have a problem with corrupted FP extensions.
I am going to try uninstalling and reinstalling them.
The best time to do this is late Sunday night when there is the least
traffic to the site.

Sorry I mis-read your post and thought you were using Windows 2003 Server.

Why not work locally to make your changes and then publish, if it is on the Apache Server where you
can't save?

I tried that too, it won't allow me to save that page. I can upload every
other page on the site. I've tried renaming the page. No good. I have gone
line-by-line in the code and cannot find anything that wasn't there before
this problem started. I even reverted back to the original, unedited
shopping cart page and it still won't allow me to save the page......

On this page, remove any meta description and meta keyword tags and then see if you can save it.

I removed keywords and descriptions:

This is bad. I just uninstalled, then reinstalled the FP extensions. Now I
can't save ANY page to the server and the site is all screwed up. All of the
navbars are gone and now I can't even fix them. I tried to sync the site
with my local copy and that won't work either. Neither will publishing from
the local to the remote sites. I'm screwed now. I think it's the server
because I host several other sites on the same host, on different servers
and they are all working fine (some of then use the same shopping cart).
It's not my software, all of my other sites are working fine on this and
several other servers with different hosts. I'm tempted to move the site to
a new server. I just tried a copy and paste of both the page itself and the
page content to another site and both the copied page and the new page with
the copied content worked fine.

Here's what I get now when I try to publish this site

An error occurred accessing your Windows SharePoint Services site files.
Authors - if authoring against a Web server, please contact the Webmaster
for this server's Web site. WebMasters - please see the server's application
event log for more details.

The event log says nothing about this. I see some "file not found" errors,
but all are for files that have nothing to do with this (although I need to
look into those too)

I would suggest that you contact your host and ask then to remove the extensions (maybe even clear
your account) and then re-install the extensions (instead of you doing it from your control panel),
then you can republish from your local copy.
