Can't save a word doc, says I'm overwriting an existing doc.

When I open a document and click save I get the save dialog box. And I
click save and it asks if I want to replace the existing file with
that name. I hit replace and it says I cannot replace an open
document. How am I supposed to save my document if I can't replace it
while its open?

Ah hah! I've had this one.

In my case, I opened one of the Backup files by mistake. In which case,
when I tried to save it, it really couldn't overwrite because I had the file
open.

The cure is to use Save As to change the file name. When you do, it will
allow the save to continue. Then you can delete the old version and you
will be good to go next time.

Cheers
