Can't save file back to the server after "saving it for sharing"

4 files saved for editing by a colleague who doesn't have access to the
webserver as he is travelling. I did this at my desk in the office on my
laptop.

He sends the files back to me with his changes. Now I am remote and logged
in via a VPN on the same laptop. I do "Save As", but it doesn't allow me to
save the files back and the file name box is blank. If I manually type the
name in it says "this file is checked out for editing by me" which isn't very
helpful. I am me and I am using the same machine so check them back in please!

How does project decide if I'm using the same machine that originally saved
the file out for editing. Is it possible to get these back in over a VPN?

I know I can admin force the files back in and save over them with the new
version but I'm a bit worried that will lose any pending task updates
submitted by the teams.

Thanks for any suggestions,
Stevio

I would first try to see if the behavior is different when you are onsite
and don't have to use VPN. VPN connections can be tricky in my experience
and results can vary greatly from being onsite.

You are correct that overwriting a schedule that has pending updates might
be dangerous as task UIDs will change. Also, references between My
Timesheet Data and My Tasks will break if you overwrite the schedule and
publish for the same reason.

Back at my desk, same problem. It no longer thinks I am me and I cannot check
the files back in :-(

Does it expect the PC to have the same IP address (not likely with a laptop
in a DHCP environment)?

Is there any option other than overwriting the files?

Thanks,

I went back to the original file that was saved on my laptop (the one I sent
to my colleage to do his modifications to) and it allows be to check that
back in, so its something within the files themselves which has changed
meaning it can no longer be checked in?

Have resorted to force checkin and then saving over the original files on
the server and losing the pending updates from the team.

I'd still like to know what has gone wrong as this is a useful feature.

Thanks,
Stevio

Stevio:

You are not using the system as intended. The other user who edits the plans
should have direct access to the server to use the offline editing mode
correctly. Your can bring these back as new plans, but you will lose the
pending updates.
