Can't save file - macrovirus?

Allan

Hi.
I would like to start by saying that I've been searching the web for ways to
cure this problem, and I have found and tried them all, but none worked. As a
final attempt before I go and smash everything around me, I would like to
hear if any of you have the slightest idea about what to do:
I can't save my word-file. I can open it, but if I change something in the
document, which I pretty much have to do, it can't be saved. It tries to
save, but after a while a screen pops up to say that the file can't be saved
because there is not enough room on the disk. This is of course bs, as there
is about 180 GB and the file is 18 MB. After cancelling this screen, a new
one appears telling me that too many files are open; this I don't understand
either since only this file is open. Yes I know that you have to close word
sometimes to close everything in the document down, and I feel certain that
I have been good at this. Also strange is it, that when I open the document
I also have to look at two toolbars of which I have absolute no use, control
toolbox and design mode I think they are called. I have never designed the
document/template to open with this and have only used one or two macros
that I just told word to record for me, I haven't done any vba programming
as I haven't got the faintest idea about it. So, what have I done so far: I
highlighted everything and copied it into a new document, no result. I tried
to save it as a RTF file, loosing whatever macros there are, I can save it,
but not open it because word tells me that the file is damaged (I do not
want to recover only the text as this means two weeks work for me applying
styles), I've tried to remove the control toolbox and design mode, but
haven't succeeded and don't know if it would help either and finally I have
tried to roll up in a fetal position in front of the monitor while mumbling
insanely, but that just made my colleagues laugh.

Any thoughts

kind regards

Allan

Well it is certain that the file is becoming corrupt. The error message
about too many files open is a generic error message when Windows doesn't
know what is wrong. These are some thoughts on the problem.

Under Tools, Options, Save tab, make sure that FastSaves is deselected.
Try opening a blank document and inserting the file into it.
Try selecting all but the final paragraph mark and copy and paste into a new
blank document (Ctrl+End, Ctrl+Shift+Home selects all but the final para
mark).
Try renaming normal.dot as normal.bad.
Check that the printer and graphics drivers are up to date.
Delete and reinstall the printer using the latest driver.
Try the File, Open and Repair option (Word 2003 and later).
Try saving as RTF or HTML, closing and then reopening and saving as a doc
again.
Clear out the temp folder of abandoned temp files. The temp folder should be
empty when all apps are closed.
Try the running the Office repair tool.
Try running Word in Safe Mode (/a switch)
Try deleting the Word Data Key.
Torch your computer and learn to play the piano.
