Can't save graphic in MS Paint as a jpeg

I have saved a lot of graphics in MS Paint as jpegs. I am
running Windows 2000 with Office 2003. I can no longer
save an image in Paint as a jpeg, and when I open the old
ones that are jpegs, they open as monochrome, and if I
make any changes to the image, I can't save the images.
Anybody have any ideas on how to get it to save images as
jpegs again? I'd appreciate it.
