Can't save new Excel Doc

M

MMD

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Help! I have created an excel spreadsheet (with multiple sheets in one doc) but can't save the document. I keep getting an error message that either:
- file name or path name does not exist
- file is being used by another program
- name is the same as another file

Can anyone tell me why I can't save. (To clarify, none of the "reasons" it won't save are applicable as I have double checked each of those).

Thanks,
Molly

Have you tried saving the file to a different folder on your HD?

Saving files is primarily a function of the operating system. Make sure you
have Office (12.2.3) & OS X (10.5.8) fully updated, run Disk Utility -
Repair Disk Permissions & restart your Mac.

If the condition persists please provide a complete, detailed step-by-step
description of how you're attempting to save as well as the exact location
you're trying to save to.

I have the exact same problem and it's driving me crazy. I've tried everything but I'm a recently converted PC to Mac guy. I cannot save any Excel file using Office for MAC but I can save Word files. I've tried save, save as and different locations. Somebody told me my "user profile" might be corrupt but I have no idea what that means and how to fix it. Tonight I signed up for the office sharing online program but that won't work because you have to save the file first before you upload it. I thought I might be able to save it right to the microsft office online community. I cannpt find an answer to this on the internet which is strange as well. Any help? Thanks

Hi Jerry,

Your problem is quite unusual, which would explain why no one is jumping
in with a solution.

I would start with these general troubleshooting steps. If one of them
fixes the problem, please post back which one so that others who
experienced your problem will learn how it can be fixed.

If these don't fix the problem, please follow up and more suggestions
are likely to be forthcoming.

Hi Jerry, in addition to try the steps Jim provided, you can try hold the "shift" key when launching Excel.
