Can't save new page

S

Susan

I bought a new computer running XP Media Center Edition 2005. My old one I
used Windows ME and FP 2000 with no problems. I installed my Frontpage 2000
and published my Tripod site to the hard drive. I can open site live and
edit existing pages, however, when I try to add a new page to the website I
can build the whole page, add photos and thumbnail them, but when I go to
save the page the save box comes up and before I can even name the file I am
given a message that "Microsoft Frontpage application file has encountered a
problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." then FP
shuts down. I tried it twice with the whole page built then once with just a
blank new page with the same results.
I have since uninstalled and reinstalled FP twice, and disabled then
re-enalbed the server extensions for my site on Tripod. All to no avail!
I contacted Tripod and they say it is a software problem.
Is there somethng within XP that I need to enable or install that may not
have been factory installed?
Can anybody help ... I have never used XP before now and was just winging it
on ME. In other words ... I'm a complete amatuer!

Test it by first opening your online site in FP
- create an empty new page and try saving it
If it saves your problem was some badly malformed html in your other page
If you get the same error contact your host and have them run a server health check and repair of the FP SE permissions

Thanks for the reply!
I already tried creating a new blank page and saving it with the same
results.
I also contacted Tripod and they said it was a software problem, but I will
see if they will do as you suggested.
I can disable and re-enable the fp se, which I did, but the same error occurs.
Thanks for your help!

Go here: http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm and download a copy of
FP Cleaner.

Run the functions that:
Clear the FrontPage Temporary files.
Clear the Cache(*.web) files

Then, open FrontPage, open your web and before you open any pages for
editing click tools > Recalculate hyperlinks.

Then try creating and saving a new page.

See if it helps

Steve,
I had such high hopes for your solution, but the same error occurs.
I will hang on to that program though, seems like a good utility to have.

Is this a weird problem or what? Nobody seems to be able to help! UGH!

I am awaiting a reply from Tripod to see if they will do as Stefan suggested
earlier.

Fortunately, I don't add new pages too often, so I will work around this
problem by just publishing after building and saving offline. At least this
still works!
