Can't Save New Word Document

If I open a new document in Word, then try to "save" or "save as" --- I
can't move the pulldown menu to the directory I want. It just hangs up,
and I have to do ctrl-alt-del to exit. This just started after years
of use.

Do I need to reinstall? If so, how do I do that?

I'm using MS Word 2002 with XP Pro.

No, you don't need to reinstall. Right-click on the My Computer icon on
the Windows desktop, left-click on Disconnect Network Drive, and
disconnect any mapped drives that are not currently available.
