Can't save Office files to network since 2003 upgrade

Jeff Hodgers

Since upgrading to Office 2003 I am unable to save Word or Excel files to our
network. The programs just hang when selecting 'Save As' from the 'File'
menu. I can create and save files to the local machine just fine. I have
run the service packs, and also a repair and a reinstall.

Has anyone seen this kind of trouble?

Thanks,
Jeff

Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop,
left-click on Disconnect Network Drive, and disconnect any mapped
drives that are not currently available.

Even though the three mapped network drives were functioning wel, I
disconnected them. Also I checked the drive stats to verify there was plenty
of room and no apparent corruption. These are the only two fixes I found in
the knowledge dB.

Discovered that a recent Windows Security update that loaded verclsid.exe was
causing problems with not only Office, but also IE6. Other posts advise
uninstalling update, running Disk Cleanup, and Disk Check for errors, then
reinstalling the update manually. I have only uninstalled the update so far,
and have cleared up the problem.
