Can you save it to some other folders like: h:\USERNAME\document.docx.
It could be that you don't have write permission to save anything to the
root folder. H:| is root folder but H:\Username\ is not.

Also, have you tried saving some other documents using excel or even
NotePad which creates a basic text file. You need to try all these
things to know if it is question of rights/permissions on your shared drive.

I'll assume the H drive is a network drive. If you can't save it, it
is most likely because you're not currently connected to the network.
If you are connected to the network and you still get this error,
check with your IT people to have them verify your permissions.

H drive is a removable disk (it is a U3 of Sandisk of flash USB cruze), I use
it for save some file to carry with me whenever I can use any PC to open. the
problem was happend recent day, I dubt it because I use it to save Microsoft
Office word 2007, if I use it to save any file which I use Microsoft Office
word 2003, it will work well to save or save as, no problem was happened.

If you're using that flash drive by working right from the flash drive
document itself, you're taking the risk that the drive can become
corrupt, which can fairly easily happen...as did floppy drives. You
should not work directly from the drive, you should copy files to your
hard drive to update and then copy the finished version to the
external drive.

Word 2007 saves the file in a totally different file format, so that
could be an issue with the external drive???

Try saving a 2007 doc as a 2003 doc with the same drive and see if
that makes any difference.

Good luck...

Thank you so much for yur instruction, I did as you said as above, but it
stll has same problem that I can't "save" or "save as". Just I can't use word
2007, the others are work well,so I doubt that word 2007 is not working with
flash drive of Sandisk . don't you think so? But why it's work with word 2007
before, and recent day suddendly become not work, it is very streanger.

Essentially that may be true. However, depending on the amount of
space a file needs to operate and conduct business...that CAN affect
which files work on external devices. Example...back in the day of
small floppies, you might easily be able to work with and save a text
file to a floppy with no issue. But Word, being a larger and more
complex app that produces larger and more complex files, might balk at
trying to work within the confines of a low-end floppy.

Okay, since that didn't work and you say that it was working and now
isn't, my next assumption is that maybe you were using a trial version
that has now stopped due to the time limit of the trial ending.

Do you know if this is full/paid for software or was it a version that
was preinstalled on your computer...often trial version.

Are you getting any other errors? Are you able to save the file to
your hard drive versus trying to use the flash drive?

Click Office Button > Word Options > Resources and click the ABOUT
button. What details does that provide? Does it show a license number
or does it say that it is a trail version?

If it was a trial version of Office 2007 that has stopped working,
your only alternatives are to uninstall it or pay the cost to purchase
a license to continue using it.

I am having the same problem. I use three computers to work on my 2007 office word .docx files, and transfer the updates amongst the three with a thumb drive. It seems that after I "Merge changes into existing file" onto the computer, complete the merges and save the document on the computer, then try to copy the saved document from the computer back to the thumb drive, I get the "Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error" and the document is gone from the thumb drive.

It is especially bizzare because I have been doing this from May to September 2009 without a hitch. I took a month off from writing and when I started up again November 2, 2009 this problem happened on all three computers. The way around it that I found was to reformat the thumb drive, and only with a complete reformat, the quick option did not work.

I suspect that it has something to do with the many microsoft updates that have been happening lately.
