Can't Save! Please Help

Adam

Hi-

I'm running MS Word 2000 in Windows 98.

I received an error message reading "Saving the
AutoRecovery file is postponed for [document name]," I
clicked 'OK,' and since then I am unable to save changes
to documents in MS Word.

When I try to save, nothing happens. When I try to close
the document, the program asks me if I would like to save
changes, but clicking 'yes' simply leaves the document
open without saving. Clicking 'no' closes the document
without saving, of course.

At one point I was able to create a new document and save
it once, but was still unable to save it again after
making changes. Now for some reason I can't even save or
name a new document.

Also, for a long time I have received an error message
when opening files reading "Microsoft Visual Basic - An
error occurred while loading 'ThisDocument'. Do you want
to continue loating the project?" Other than having to
click 'no' it never seemed to be a problem.

Any ideas? I have an important project today and need to
be able to save documents!

Thanks,
Adam

I am having the same problem.
Don't use MSOffice2000 Word that often.
Just discovered that
File->Save
File->SaveAs
both fail.
The File->SaveAs does NOT bring up the dialog box.
nothing happens; if I attempt to exit clippy complains
that I have an un-saved file, I try OK to save but
still no SaveAs dialog box, no save.

This affects all users on the one computer (WinXP Pro).

One severe work-around is to create a new user.
(new user: tempLIMITED) and log in. After the
initialization for new MSOffice2000, the new
user tempLIMITED does File->SaveAs correctly.

Hi Adam,

First see if the problem occurs when you start Word with the /a
switch. Go to Start/Run and run:

winword /a

Note the space before the forward slash.

If you are able to save a document then you may have a macro
intercepting your Save command.

- Go to Tools/Macro/Macros and make sure "Macros in" reflects "All
active templates and documents".
- See if there are any macros named along the lines of FileSave or
FileSaveAs
- Select the macro and see if the Edit or Delete command is available
- If it is then either Delete the macro or click "Edit" and place an
"X" in front of the macro name to prevent it from automatically
running until you can determine what the macro is actually doing

If delete is unavailable then chances are it is stored in a global
template. A global template is a template located in your Startup
folder that is automatically loaded when Word starts. You can find a
list of these under Tools/Templates and Add-Ins.

To determine which template, in the Macros dialog box, narrow down the
list of macros using "Macros in" at the bottom until you have
determined what template the macro is stored in.

Once you locate the template then either open the template and
delete/rename the macro or move the template out of the folder so it
will no longer be used.

Global templates are typically stored in your Word\Startup folder or
Office\Startup. Your Word\Startup folder can be determined by going to
Tools/Options/File Locations to verify this location. The
Office\Startup folder will be located in the installation path for
Office.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.
