can't save spreadsheet created in Excel XP on Mac OS 9.2 Excel 2001

A spreadsheet created in Excel (XP), saved to a windows server, can be
opened but not saved using a Mac OS 9.2 machine running Excel 2001.
Cells are text only, no macros or even formulas!
A system error occurs.

Are there any known incompatibilites?

thanks

Hi Jenny,

Are you opening the workbook right from the server or do you copy it to your
desktop first??

Are you trying to save the workbook to the server or to your local computer?

What system error do you get when you try to save the file?

Please post back with the info. Thanks.

This sounds more like a server permissions issue. XL, when it saves,
saves a copy to the server. If that's successful, it then deletes the
original file and renames the saved file to the original filename. Check
that you have permission to delete/rename files on the server.

Other possibilities:

There aren't any incompatibilities that I know of. Have you updated XL01
fully using the updates found at MacTopia downloads?

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx

Another thing to check is that you've allocated enough memory to XL01,
using File/Get Info/Memory. Leave the minimum at the default, but I used
to set the preferred memory to at least 25MB.
