Word 2000 / win 98 SE.
When saving to floppy I get a Microsoft Word flag - Cannot save the file.
The location you want to save to is write protected. Tab on floppy is
unlocked. Also tried sve to new floppy - same result. Hope group can help.
Can't find anything on net.

Hi -

Do *not* attempt to save directly to floppies.
Do *not* attempt to open files on floppies.

Always copy/save to your hard drive, then move/copy the file to or from the
floppy disk using Windows explorer window.

Search the newsgroup if you want more detail on the issue.

Cosider yourself fortunate. It is better to find out that you can't
save to a floppy than it is to find out that you can't open what you
had saved later.

It is best to always save to a hard drive and then copy the file to
your portable media (e.g., floppies, cds, etc.)

It is a good thing you got that message because you don't want to save to a
floppy - from Word - even if you thought you did. If you want to be able to
use your documents, when working within Word, act as if your floppy drive
does not exist! (This applies to CDRW/CDR drives as well.)
Don't use Word to:
Open a document on a floppy
Print a document on a floppy
Edit a document on a floppy
Save a document to a floppy (not even a copy)

Word regularly trashes documents on floppy drives!

Instead, work on the document using your hard drive. Copy it back and forth
using Windows.

I know that for some with shared computers (libraries, schools) this is a
tough prescription. All I can recommend for that is to use a brand new
formatted disk each time you save and don't do any editing.

CyberTaz, Greg, and Charles Kenyon.
Thanks for prompt reply and I will keenly follow your advice. I will just
add that I have been saving to and extending this document for two years
(minutes to bi-monthly meetings) and only now does word decide to punish me
for my wrongs. Thanks again - I shall now go and apply the correct practice.
