Can't save to normal.dot

This problem just cropped up. My normal.dot document has always started with
a blank area at the top of the document about the same size as a header.
There is a light blue ruler along the left showing 72 "lines" of space at the
top. Well, it went away so I tried restoring one of my many saved normal.dot
files with no luck. I followed MS directions to open Word, go into the
Templates folder through Word, and save the normal.dot document as I like it.
Here is the wierd part, when I open the normal.dot document through
Word/Open, etc. it opens fine, when I open it through Open Office
Document/Blank Document, the header area is not there. If I then go back in
through Word/Open/etc., it opens fine. Very strange!

I am using 2003 with SP3 and all updates. I use GoldMine but have tested this
with the GoldMine wordlink removed. No difference.

You have accidentally toggled on the HideWhiteSpace feature. Move the cursor
slowly over the gap between pages until the pointer changes to opposing
arrows (and if screen tips are enabled you see a pop up 'Show White Space').
Double-click to toggle the feature and your margins will reappear.

Thanks, you solved my problem. I was showing the top area by clicking on
header/footer, then saving the doc to normal. It wasn't saving. Your fix
solved my problem. Meanwhile, I reinstalled Word from scratch, then restored
from a backup. Your fix solved everything in two seconds. Go figure!

In Word 2007, they have made it more difficult to accidentally toggle the
HideWhiteSpace feature by making it a double-click action.
