can't see all text in template

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel My processor is an intel core 2 duo since I didn't see that category on the drop down list.

I have a large document with templates created by someone else. In areas where the text exceeds the space allotted, I can't see the text at all. I know it is there, because if I clear that block or try to cut and paste from an HTML version, the track changes shows the text in red to the right of the block. My goal is to provide suggested edits to the originator. Can I remove the template? If I try to stretch the template, it still doesn't appear, and it misaligns all of my other edits.

Rob - Thank you for your quick response. I have an e-mail in to the originator right now. I have the documentin word 2004 format also, but it behaves the same. I can see all the text in HTML. I'm trying to give this person edits in one document where edits can be tracked. This morning I will try pasting all text from the HTML doc into a word doc. Last night I was trying to remove the template from the document, but I just don't know how.

Hi Shari;

To clarify terminology first you are not dealing with "a large document with
templates" :) A template is a single file which is used to generate new
documents. I.e., when you launch Word directly it generates a new blank
document based on the Normal.dotm *template*. What the user does with the
new document from that point on is up to him/her depending on what the
specifications designed within the template permit in the docs based on it.

It sounds like you're actually dealing with one [or more] of 3 types of
'containers' that are included in the content of this document:

1- Text Boxes,
2- Table Cells, or
3- Text Box Form Fields

In either case, the container is not sized properly to display the amount of
content within. If you don't want to increase the size of the container your
other option is to select the content & reduce the font size. How to select
the text depends to a great extent on which of the 3 types it is.

If a Text Box: Click in it & key Command+A.

If a Table Cell: Click in it then use Table> Select> Cell.

If a Text Box Form Field: Click at the beginning of the content then key
Shift+Option+DownArrow.

There are a number of possible specific reasons why you are having this
problem, but the bottom line is that the originator of the document simply
didn't take cross-platform compatibility into consideration. That would
include the use of fonts which aren't available on your system.

Perhaps it would help your efforts to have the originator send you a PDF of
their document so you can see what it's "supposed" to look like :)
