Can't see CompleteThrough

P

Paul Luxton

I would like to report on CompleteThrough. I am only able to see the
CompleteThrough date when I hover my mouse over the progress bar. I can't
seem to find the field anywhere to be able to report on it. If it is only a
calculated field, then can anyone tell me how it is calculated please?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Paul,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

The complete through date is either the Current Date by default, or the
Status Date if you've entered it - both in Project/Project Information.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Mike,

I am sorry, but your answer didn't help. The CompleteThrough date is
different depending on which taskbar I hover the mouse over. This date
cannot therefore be a date which is set for the whole project.

I have a number of tasks, each with a different percentage complete. (I
have seen the discussion on work vs duration in relation to % complete, but I
didn't find my answer there). For each task I am able to hover my mouse over
the progress line on the task bar. This gives me an information window (like
bubble help text) entitled 'Progress'. This window gives me the task name,
the actual start, the duration, the CompleteThrough and the % complete. I am
able to display all of those fields by inserting the relevant column except I
can't find CompleteThrough to be able to insert the column. If I hover my
mouse over the task bar, but not over the progress bar as well, then the
information window only gives me name, start, duration and finish.

When you look at the Bar Styles and scroll down to the progress bar, the
default setting is that from is set to actual start and to is set to
CompleteThrough, but I can't seem to see any other reference to
CompleteThrough.

I hope that you can help.

Paul.

Sorry Paul, that was bum information :( The complete through date doesn't
appear to have a field. It comes into it's own when updating your project
via Tools/Tracking/Update project when you can select a complete through
date. This is the date I was responding to, when it defaults to today's
date or the status date if entered in Project/Project Information. A bit of
investigation seems to show that it is calculated from the Actual Duration
field. If, for example, we have a duration of 4 weeks and we enter 75%
Complete, that means that 3 weeks have been completed and if it starts on
1st of the month, due to finish on 28th, than the complete through date
would be 21st.

Do you have the PRoject Summary Task turned on? (Tools menu, Options, View
tab, lower right-hand corner) If you do, it displays summary information
for the project as a whole, including the effective "completed through"
date. Note that "completed through" for any summary task, including the
project as a whole, is sort of a "virtual date" computed by subtracting the
remaining duration from the task (project) finish date. If it wasn't
computed that way, it wouldn't properly take into account any task lag and
lead times or slack in the project.
