Can't see date when trying to open file in details view

All of a sudden, when I ask Excel to open a file, even though I am in details
view, I only see a name column. The date, file size, etc, no longer shows.
I know it is not because the name column is too wide to fit the window, I can
make it very small and still there is nothing to the right of it. I used to
see several columns of file information, now it has disappeared, making it
impossible to sort by date.

In the Open dialogue box, Right click on the header bar (where it currently
only says Name), and select the columns that you want to see

thank you so much, that's been driving me crazy for a couple weeks. I don't
know what I did to lose those columns, but now I have them back.
