Can't see formulas

Hi. Im using version 11.5 of Powerpoint.
I am looking at a pp for a math class, released from the company that made the textbook.

When I open the pp, a window opens that says "converting metafile".

When the pp opens the formulas either don't show up, or are covered by black boxes. I can double click on them and open them in MathType.

This is the same weather or not I let the "convert metafile" happen.

Typically you get the "converting metafile" message when opening a presentation created in a
Windows version of PowerPoint (which uses metafiles to display things like MathType equations,
charts and so on). That much is normal and would probably not occur again if you were to save the
presentation back to disk from your Mac PowerPoint 2004.

The black boxes/invisible equations problem is odd though. I'd certainly let the publisher know.
And with luck, Bob Matthews is watching over us (he's with MathType and will know of any
workarounds/solutions for you, I'm sure)

Bon and Steve, thanks for the help so far. I saved it as a Mac file, and it opens without going through the metafile conversion process, still black boxes for formulas.

Steve, it's a .PPT file.

I also tried Open Office, no luck.

As far as contacting the publisher, good luck. Textbook companies are notoriously impossible to get in touch with regarding tech support. Honestly, one gets the impression that all the associated tech stuff is just sugar coating to justify outrageous prices.

Can you open the PPT on a Windows version? If so try ungrouping then regrouping the
Mathtype objects.

They'll no longer be equations, just vector graphics that happen to *look* like equations
but they should be visible in PPT/Mac.
