Can't see menus anymore.

Maybe I should have left well enough alone....
After fixing a minor problem I had while quitting (see post "When
Quitting..."), I now have another problem which I've never seen
before.
I no longer see the dropdown menus when working in word. I can
highlight the top of the menu bar (FILE, EDIT, VIEW...) but the
drop-down never appears (except for FONT, and HELP). HELP, however,
doesn't show any Word specific commands, just "About Ballon Help" and,
"Show Ballons".
This is a bit critical right now, as I'm working on something
important, (like a resume). The keystroke functions still work, at
least the ones that I know. The other Office programs work fine.
I've rebooted classic, rebooted the computer, reinstalled Office,
blah, blah, blah.
I've run this for three years now, and never have had any problems
until now.
Anyone have any ideas short of buying the new office suite? I really
don't have that cash right now. I'm running OSX 10.1.5 with Office
2001
Thanks,
JS

That's an easy one, actually. Probably trash the prefs, full instructions
here if you don't know how (I suspect you don't, or you would have tried it)
or if that doesn't work.

(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

By the way, reinstalling Office does no good at all unless you run Remove
Office first to clean off the system, and for Office 98/2001 you have to
download the Remove Office tool from mactopia, the one on the CD doesn't
work.
