I have looked everywhere to solve this issue. I found a spot on MS site identifying a known problem with word 2002 not being able to see graphics. But no luck is fixing. Lost the site.
When viewing all you can see is the border and place holders. Sometimes the graphic appears and when you scroll down it might dissappear.
I tried this soloution
Tools | Options | View: make sure that "Picture placeholders" is not
checked. suggested by Suzanne S. Barnhill but is was not checked by default.
The ANSWER suggested by garfield-n-odie is Try reducing the hardware acceleration setting in Start | Control Panel
| Display | Advanced. The fastest setting is the default, but is not
always the best. If you reduce until you can see the graphics they will show.
Worked like a champion!
