Cant see tif Picture file insertion

Hi

When I insert from file and the source is a .tif, the results on screen are
completely blank white space. The space is reserved, and if I click on that
space I get all of the drag/grab handles, but the contents are blank. Print
Preview is OK and the resulting hardcopy is OK. I have checked to make sure
the picture placeholder option is NOT checked and I have cleared all of the
relative caches without having any affect on this problem. This occurrs on
both XP2002Office-Pro and XP2003Office. I also have had other instances where
inserting a .tif worked OK, so apparently not all .tif files are the same?

Word is picky about TIFFs generally; there are indeed numerous flavors, and
some of them Word doesn't play well with. Generally speaking, if the TIFF
prints okay, I suck it up and put up with the problems, but of course if
you're trying to crop the image or layer text on top of it or something,
then that's not satisfactory. It's possible you could open the TIFF in a
graphics app and save in a different format that Word would do better with.

Thanks Suzanne... that pretty well confirms my experience. While we are on
that topic, in your much greater experience with all of the problems you deal
with, is there one format more than others that is "best" when working with
Word?

BTW: Thanks for all your great work! I dont know where you find the time,
but I see the obvious effort that you put into it and it is much appreciated.
