Can't select font (ttf)

R

Ryan Choo

Hi guys,

I threw in a *.ttf font into the FONT folder but I cannot select the font in
Word, even though the name of the font is displayed from the drop down list.
This is what I meant:

1. Highlighting of text and formatting it with this new font - ok. But,
once I move the cursor to the next word, the formatting will be lost and the
word will revert back to Times. Strange.

2. Highlighting of text without moving the cursor to another word and did a
print test. Font printed correctly.

3. Unable to type words using this font formatting. Always revert back to
Times.

All the above happened in Word alone. I have not encountered problems with
Excel, PowerPoint and Entourage. Why is this happening in Word alone when I
needed to use this new font?

Experts, please advise. Million of thanks!

What font? Please send me a copy. I am interested in collecting

I don't think he's in Word 2004 -- I think he's in Word X. This is a
classic Word X misbehaviour when you hit it with a Unicode font it can't
properly support.

You can work around the behaviour two ways:

1) Type a junk word

2) Format it in the font

3) Cursor into the middle of the word

4) Type what you wanted

5) delete the two ends of the junk word

The other way is to set the Font of the Style you are using to the new font.

Sorry: it's very flaky: Word X doesn't support Unicode very well (or
rather, the Apple QuickDraw it uses to draw its display supports only those
Unicode characters that are in the Macintosh International character set).

You will have much less bother with Word 2004.

Cheers
