can't select text.

I suddenly can't select text. Right clicking and dragging doesn't move the
cursor at all. Double or triple clicking gets no results either. I have
Windows Vista, Word 2007. Using the laptop touchpad doesn't work either. Did
I accidentally change a setting?

No, you broke a registry setting. Run Regedit, navigate to the Word Data
Key, with DATA selected, press Delete. Word will recreate a new key when it
is restarted.

Thank you so much. It worked perfectly.

It is usually caused by leaving Word running when an automatic update takes
place.

This happened to me after installing Windows 7 and Office 207 SP1. I have
tried this solution, the related Options etc. Started Word in safe mode,
dea-activated all templates and add-ins.
The cursur and selection works fine until the moment I use Return/Enter.
Then the select function stops working. I can use the mouse for all menus,
it's 'only' in the text area it does not work.

I've seen reported this for Win 7 64-bit: is that what you are using? Have
you tried the data key?

Thinkpad users using the newest release of Client Security Solution (CSS 8.3)
will apparently have this proble. The problem is solved by uninstalling CSS
8.3 and revert to CSS 8.2.
I never realized how much I like my mouse...
