Can't send an attachment larger than 3MB -- Need help

Hi all,

My offices uses Entourage 2004 running on Mac OSX, but we are having
trouble sending attachments. No one in the office is able to send or
receive an attachment in an email larger than 3 MB, even though
Entourage supposedly does not limit attachment size.

I have called our website host and e-mail prover who said they do not
limit the attachment size, but their suggest was to switch to a
different email program (like Outlook). I set up Outlook as an
experiment and was able to send out and receive an attachment that was
7 MB. I do not know if this concludes anything, but at least I think
my service provider does not limit my attachment size.

It is not a plausible option to have everyone switch over to Outlook.
Does anyone have any insights into this problem? We need to be able
to send and receive attachments in the 7-10 MB range.

I am looking for any help explaining or solving the problem.

Thank you for your help & insight!

What happens when you try? Do you get an error? Does it time out? Does a
pony protest?

First, create a new User in System Preferences and test sending a large
attachment from a new Identity in Entourage. If it works there, then there
is something in your User's folder that is the problem. If it doesn't work,
then monitor the network to see what is failing. Since you mention Outlook,
I'm guessing you have a server at your work that Entourage goes through. I'm
guessing the problem in on some setting in YOUR server.

You are correct, Entourage does not have a limit. There is no setting in
Entourage to change this. In order to see what is failing you need to
monitor the traffic between Entourage and your server. This should tell you
what is failing.

Test your network with tcpflow. See directions here:

Another application I ran into recently that does the same thing but has a
different interface and might be more user friendly.

EavesDrop....Let it capture some stuff then double-click any of the lines of
text in the main window to see more detail.
