Can't Send Document as Attachment

I cannot seem to send documents directly from Word as an attachment. The choice
is greyed out. I have already checked "Mail as attachment" under
Tools/Options/General.

Using Office XP under Windows XP Home SP1 with Outlook Express 6 installed.

If any further info is needed, please let me know. Thanks.
